Woody Johnson has no regrets about releasing Aaron Rodgers

Details
21 October 2025

In a stunning move, Jets owner Woody Johnson publicly criticized on Tuesday the team's starting (as of Week 7) quarterback, Justin Fields.

"If we can just complete a pass, it would look good," Johnson told reporters, among other things.

They had a guy last year who can complete a pass. They didn't want him back. But Johnson said he has no regrets about moving on from future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.

"I never look back," Johnson said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. "You have to look forward to football. Even when you cut players, they could be a Hall of Famer. You just never know. But Aaron's playing great now. He's in a situation that's working for him."

Of course, Rodgers seemed to be not interested in a third season with the Jets — even if they wanted him. And, as we hear it, there was a difference of opinion as to who did and who didn't. G.M. Darren Mougey wanted to keep Rodgers, we're told. Coach Aaron Glenn wanted to move on.

Moving on from Rodgers is only part of the problem. The other part is the guy they picked. By title, that was Mougey's move. It's possible, however, that others in the organization had their fingerprints on the move.

Up to and including Woody Johnson himself.

Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers 'for sure' still wants to be traded but says 'If I'm here, I'll play good football'

Details
21 October 2025

The Las Vegas Raiders just got shut out. They're second-to-last in the NFL with 14.7 points per game. And their top wide receiver still wants out.

Jakobi Meyers requested a trade just before the season. The organization didn't honor that request, nor did it give him a new deal.

Meyers, who's in the final year of his three-year, $33 million contract, was asked Tuesday about the league's Nov. 4 trade deadline.

"I got no control over that," he said, per ESPN's Ryan McFadden. "If I'm here, I'm here."

When asked if he still wants to be traded, Meyers was honest.

"Oh, for sure," Meyers said, via ESPN. "But I'm a professional at the end of the day. I'm just trying to play good football. If I'm here, I'll play good football.

"If I'm not here, I'll go out there and play wherever I'm supposed to be."

There hasn't been much good football in Las Vegas this season. The Pete Carroll era is off to a 2-5 start. Offensive coordinator Chip Kelly is struggling in his return to the NFL after helping Ohio State win a national championship last season. Quarterback Geno Smith hasn't translated the success he had with the Seattle Seahawks to the offense Kelly's calling in Vegas.

Running back Ashton Jeanty, a Boise State phenom and last year's runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, has averaged fewer than four yards per carry in all but two games. Tight end Brock Bowers, a first-team All-Pro as a rookie in 2024, has been hampered and, recently, sidelined by a knee injury.

During an offseason of change, Meyers was a key piece of the Raiders' roster that ultimately remained the same. His production, however, has not.

Last season, Meyers led all Vegas wideouts with 87 receptions and 1,027 receiving yards. He found the end zone four times.

In six games this season, Meyers has logged 29 receptions and 329 receiving yards. He's still looking for his first touchdown.

Meyers' numbers, though, are a byproduct of a reeling offensive unit. It doesn't help that he missed last week's 31-0 defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs because of knee and toe injuries that he picked up in a win over the Tennessee Titans the previous week.

He expects to be available for a Week 9 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Meyers, according to ESPN, said he hasn't brought up his trade request recently.

"[The Raiders] know how I feel," Meyers said Tuesday, per ESPN. "It's no reason for me to keep going back crying to them, 'Can you get me out of here?'

"If you move me, you move me. But in the meantime, I got some real people that I care about next to me, so I'm trying to make sure I'm being my best self for them."

Meyers signed with the Raiders in 2023 after four seasons with the New England Patriots, with whom he started his career as an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina State.

The soon-to-be-29-year-old Meyers is set to become a free agent after this season.

Report: NFL hopes to add two international games for 2026

Details
21 October 2025

The NFL is hoping to add two more international games in 2026, league executives said Tuesday, via Ben Fischer of Sports Business Journal.

Per Fischer, that does not necessarily mean Saudi Arabia or some other country could get its first international game. Saudi Arabia has expressed an interest in hosting an NFL game.

The league already has confirmed a game for Australia in 2026, and Commissioner Roger Goodell has confirmed the NFL is returning to Mexico City for the first time since 2022.

If the league continues to play three games in the United Kingdom and one each in Ireland, Germany, Spain and Brazil, as it did this season, that's nine international games. Nine is the current maximum under a 2023 NFL resolution that allows for eight league-operated games overseas plus the Jaguars' annual game in London.

“We have seven games this year, and six of those are league-organized, and we do believe next year there will be more than that,” NFL senior VP/managing director international Gerrit Meier said, via Fischer. “Whether that leads to the maximum of eight league-organized games or not, we will see, but the definite idea is to get ourselves more to the maximum.”

There is a question about whether Ireland stays in the rotation in 2026, according to Fischer. If not, a new market could open next year.

The league eventually wants to play 16 international games per season. That could mean having multiple games in a country, like it currently does in the United Kingdom.

“For now, as we have limited inventory, we will spread those to the new markets,” Meier said.
