The Jets made two of the biggest splashes ahead of this year’s NFL trade deadline, sending out two of their key young defensive pieces out of town mainly for draft compensation.
Sauce Gardner was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in an absolute stunner, then a few hours later Quinnen Williams was shipped off to the Dallas Cowboys, completely signaling a sell-off.
Gang Green continued to float some of their other assets leading up to the deadline, including Jermaine Johnson.
The Bears and 49ers were said to be among the teams who showed interest in Johnson, and according to SNY's Connor Hughes a second-round pick was on the table at one point, but ultimately nothing came to fruition.
The 26-year-old made it clear that he'd like to remain with the organization as his name was floated in rumors in the weeks leading up to Tuesday's deadline.
It's not surprise his stance stayed the same as the 4 p.m. deadline came and went.
“I’d be lying if I said I was happy my brothers are gone because I’m not, I’m sick,” Johnson wrote on X. “But, I believe strongly in the organization, staff and my brothers in the locker room. I said when I got drafted I wanted to be the reason or part of the reason this thing gets changed.
“That’s going to continue to be my outlook. I love this team and this fan base and y’all will continue to get my all, my absolute best on and off the field. Let’s look onward and upward because better things are coming and I give my word on that. Go Jets always 💚.”
Johnson has one sack and 19 tackles through five games this season.
