NFL trade deadline: Breece Hall went through it as Jets cleaned house around him but kept him in New York

Breece Hall went through it Tuesday.

The New York Jets were the stars of the NFL trade deadline as they sent off All-Pro defenders Sauce Garder and Quinnen Williams in two separate deals. The trades initiated a complete teardown in New York as the Jets stockpiled draft capital with their eyes fixed squarely on the long-term future.

There's no winning to be done now in New York, and there's little reason for a team like the Jets to roster a 24-year-old starting running back in his prime. But the 4 p.m. ET trade deadline came and went without Hall being dealt. And he's now stuck on a team with no hope or aspirations of competing anytime soon.

Hall watched this play out with the rest of us and let his feelings be known on social media.

First came the Gardner deal. The Jets traded Gardner to the Colts for a lucrative package featuring 2026 and 2027 first-round picks and wide receiver AD Mitchell in return. Gardner is a fourth-year veteran and two-time All-Pro and has been one of the league's best cornerbacks since he set foot on the field as a rookie in 2022. Now he's playing for another team.

Here's how Hall reacted after that news broke:

Then came the Williams deal. Williams is a former All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler who's one of the best pass-rushing interior linemen in football.

Like with Gardner, the Jets received a haul to part with Williams. The Cowboys traded a 2027 first-round pick, a 2026 second-round pick and third-year defensive tackle Mazi Smith to acquire Williams.

Also like with Gardner, this prompted a reaction from Hall on social media, this time with an emoji that made his feelings clear.

So, why didn't Jets trade Hall?

It wasn't that Hall wasn't on the trade block.

Per The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Jets were shopping Hall and seeking a third-round pick in return. NFL insider Jordan Schultz, meanwhile, reported Hall wanted "to be out" of New York as the trade deadline approached its final hour.

But the deadline came and went without a deal as suitors apparently weren't willing to meet New York's asking price. Linebacker Quincy Williams and defensive end Jermaine Johnson, who were also reportedly on the trade block, also remained in New York.

And with that, Hall's social media reactions were gone. He deleted both of his above tweets in the immediate aftermath of the trade deadline, apparently accepting his fate for the rest of the season and not looking to make things worse.

There's always the offseason, Breece.
